Employee Management
1. People of different ages
2. People of different ethnicities
3. People of different religions and cultures
This means the workplace needs to accommodate all these diverse individuals and make them feel at home.
A unique way to look at diversity is like a recipe. Each recipe has different ingredients that give the meal its unique taste.
Each ingredient does its part to give the final meal its unique flavour.
Ramadan is here with us. Being a religious holiday, you will have employees in the workplace that are observing the holy month. You will observe Muslims fasting from sunrise to sundown and you have to find a way to have the workplace accommodate them.
While the workplace is where employees earn their living, the month of Ramadan opens a different perspective. Most times, your Muslim employees will require extra time off for prayers, have late nights and might need time off to recover from this.
The workplace might have moved to homes with the current situation. However, if your employees are still reporting to the office, create a space where those observing Ramadan can have their privacy. This will go a long way in ensuring that they feel included in the workplace as well as minimise time lost if they have to find different spaces for the same.
When Ramadan is over Muslims celebrate Eid-UL-Fitr. At the workplace, you can facilitate a small celebration for those that participated in Ramadan. This shows makes them feel included and can also act as a way to sensitise the rest of your team to diverse religions and cultures.
